VINTAGE

I love the look of vintage cards.  Vintage allows you to go in so many different directions.  One of many things that are on my wish list are more vintage stamps, I don't have any at this time.

I received the birdcage and bird die cut from a friend in a swap.  The cage was red and just didn't give me the look I wanted so I  covered it with crackle paint so that the red shows through.  I took a grungeboard swirl and added rhinestones to it and placed in on top of a page out of an old book.  The background of the card is distressed inks with a spritz of water giving it a weathered look.

The left side just didn't look right so I added tule and metal cornor brads.

"ORANGE" Design Team Card

I have been a really bad blogger through this summer.  I haven't entered any contests or anything.  I made a board book for my daughter for her 30th birthday and I've kept up with all the birthdays in the family and of course, I've done my design team work.  I just haven't been very good about sitting down and getting it onto my blog.

This card is for the design team at Scrap Tiffany.  This week we were to work with the color orange.  It's not one of Tiffany's favorite colors but it is mine.  The image is from Stampin Up and colored with copic markers.  I distressed the orange cardstock by wetting it and then rubbing my finger over it until it was torn and wrinkled.  I think it give the cardstock a ruffled look.

Black & White Photos

Today I'm showing you a LO using Black and White photos that I did for the design team.  I like to use a lot of color with B & W photos because I feel it makes the image pop!  This picture is my grandson in his backyard on his swing.  Even though it is B & W you can feel the sun.

I used my new frindge scissors, that I won on the Spotted Canary, on the bottom of the LO and cut the Caterpillar with my Cricut using A Walk In My Garden cartridge.  The backing for the photo is a Tissue and applied with Mod Podge and used a little distress ink to give it a little color.

Congratulation on the New Job

I made this card for my daughters brother-in-law that just got hired by a trucking firm.  He is now a long haul trucker.  The theme for Scrap Tiffiny Blog design team was to use Brad & Eyelets.  So I combined these into one card. 

I stamped the truck cab from a Stamp-in Up pickup stamp and cut the bed off.  Used the cuttlebug to give the trailer some embossing and the wheels are buttons with shinny chrome brads.

Lili of the Valley Challenge Card

I was in need of a Birthday card so went looking for a current challenge with a sketch.  It is so much easier for me to get started if I have a sketch to go from.  This sketch is a challenge with Lili of the Valley Blog.

Pirate Birthday Party! ! !

It was Cooper's Pirate Birthday Party this past weekend.  My daughter and I put together the invitations above using Paperdolls Cricut Cartridge. 

I then used a grunge board cutout and used it as a mask on his birthday card.  I sprayed over it with Glimmer Mist giving it an old look for the skeleton.  I, once again, used a paperdoll cut out for the pirate and ship.  I distressed the sails by wetting them down and rubbing them until the paper was ruffed up and applied some distress ink.  Two buttons for the skeleton eyes and a few stickers finished it out.

On the day of the party I made Pirate cupcakes for the kids and a Pirate cake for everyone else.

It's too bad that the Birthday Pirate broke his leg the day before he turned two and was not able to play most of the games.  He had a good time anyway and is now the proud owner of a black cast!

Ugly Photos

Gosh, I can't believe it's been so long since I have posted anything.  I have been busy creating, but most of it is for the design team at Scrap Tiffany and I have to wait to post it.  The other thing I have been working on, is my grandson's second birthday party.  I will post what has been made for the "Pirate Party" when I gather everything together.  Pirates are very fun!

For Scrap Tiffany this week I had to work with Ugly Photos.  In this day and age we mostly just delete the ugly photos so this was a real challange.  But, once again, grandson to the rescue!  I went with Ugly Funny Faces.  That made it so much easier.  A little 4 year old can make some really funny faces.

Printers Tray - Yours, Mine and Ours - Family

I am so excited about this post today.  I have been looking for a printers tray for a while now and almost decided to buy a new one.  Over Memorial Day weekend there is a HUGE flea market in Packwood, WA.  Packwood is a very small town that is taken over by hundreds of vendors and they run up and down both sides of the Hwy. that goes through the middle of their town.  So with my husband, chihuahua and lab in tow, we headed up there.

At one of the first vendors my eyes lit up and I grabbed this printers tray for $10!  My husband was so glad that I found this so close to where we had parked the car because he really didn't want to pack it around all day.  So, my purchase was made and he ran it quickly back to the car while my mind was a whirl with all the things I could put into this.

During the week I rummaged through things of my mothers, my husband and my little jewelery box from when I was a kid.  Paper was cut to fill all of the compartments and then I worked to fill them.  I took the baby spoon that fed both of my kids and all eight of my grandchildren.  The baby shoes that my kids wore, a little train that I got as a child, my husbands baby pictures along with his parents and a watch that was his fathers that was passed down to my husband.  Both of my step-daughters and their families.  (okay, the missing spot is for Lauryn that I have to find a picture I like)

The little cat was from my grandmother and it was always in her front window.  The picture is my parents and their first little dog.  In the top right corner is the ration book, with stamps still in it, that was made out to my mother.  Inside the coin purse I found tokens.  Five of the small red ones added up to one cent.  One the left is my fathers 4th grade report card.  Not bad scores dad!

I have my daughters family next with her husband and their two sons.  The palm tree is because they were married in Hawaii on the beach.  The bracelet is my daughters when she was two.  It has her name and contact information on it.  Kind of a return to sender if lost.

Below that is a picture of my father when he was in the Navy and his dog tags.  The middle picture is bath time in the tub when he was a kid.  I included a little pocket knife of his also.  The last picture is from my wedding to my husband.  Alzheimers, had by then, taken so many of my fathers memories but he was there for me that day and I will never forget his smile.  I miss you pops!

 My son, AJ and his wife Lindsey and a picture of him as a kid on the Zoom Zoom.  The little pinball games are ones that I saved as a child from Cracker Jacks from the days when they gave away really good stuff and one of my first Matchbox Cars.  The arrow heads, Indian beads and old bottles were hand dug by my father when I was little and I remember going out with him.

It is very hard to see in the picture but the smallest compartment is filled with the beaded necklace that the hospital used to give the new babies when they were born.  Yes, it's mine, with my last name WHEELER.  My husbands and my compartment seems to have been cut off from the pictures but we are in there.  My pin from when I raised five assistance dogs for CCI, the tie clip from when my husband was a reserve sheriff and dice and chips.  Yes, he loves to gamble!

I am sure this will be a work in progress as our family changes and the grandchildren grow.  I hope to always be adding little memories to our life.

Scrap Tiffany Blog Hop

We are all showing everyone on the hop what we can create with recycled items.

I looked around my house trying to decide what I wanted to recycle and it didn't take me long to see what was tossed into the recycling trash most often. I don't drink coffee, but do enjoy my caffeine, cold and over ice every morning. Yes, I'm one of those that has a Diet Coke every morning. My husband drinks the Sprite.

I cut the top and bottom off of the soda cans using a steak knife and then used scissors to cut the sides. The cans are very thin and really do cut easily. Do be very careful, they have very sharp edges and you can easily cut yourself.

The aluminum is curled so I ran it through my Cuttlebug with an embossing folder and it came out with a perfect emboss and nice and straight.  For the next step I ran it through my Cuttlebug once again with a Sizzix die and cut flowers.  (I used Flower Layers #3)

I put the flowers together, curled the ends a little and used a button for the center.  I sliced very thin pieces from the aluminum  and they curled on their own. I added them as an embellishment to my flower. 

Don't forget those flip tops!  I attached them with brads and ran the ribbon through them for a finished look. 

I loved the blues and greens of the Sprite can but can't wait to try Orange Crush for the orange, Mt. Dew for the greens and all the other options out there on the market.

For the Diet Coke can I used the silver back side of it. I embossed it with the Cuttlebug and then used Alcohol Inks to color it. I  lightly sanded the top to take the color off of the embossed area so it would give it that extra shine.  Of course I didn't forget the flip top and ribbon.  An ATC ready to go.
